ABOUT

Growing up the daughter of a Seattle jazz pianist, the theme music of Catherine's life has spanned nearly the entire history of the genre, from ragtime, to big band swing, to bop and beyond.

It is her mother's huge passion for jazz that helped inspire Catherine to learn Lindy Hop in 2004, followed by her discovery of Blues Dance in Portland in 2005. Moved by the deeply sensual and connected quality of the dance, Catherine could not stop taking classes and dancing socially, and has been teaching and DJing regularly since 2009. That same year, she founded the now thriving Blues Dance scene in Eugene, Oregon, while in graduate school.

In addition to Blues and Lindy Hop, Catherine has trained extensively in Argentine Tango, and also has experience in Hip Hop and West African dance.

When teaching, Catherine is known for her infectious enthusiasm and attention to detail. Her training and experience as a Certified Yoga Teacher lends anatomical precision to her classes, helping students dance sustainably through their entire lives.

Catherine's highest goal as a dance teacher is that each of her students expands their capacity for joy, self-expression, and connection in dance, facilitated by deepening body awareness and solid technique.

Based in Seattle, Catherine is the Teaching Coordinator for Burn Blue, and teaches and DJs regularly in Seattle, the Pacific NW, and beyond!
